SUMMARY:Guided Walks I: Plants in the Claypits
DESCRIPTION:Join ecologist Barbra Harvie and urban botanist Malcom Macneill on a plant walk around the Claypits. \n\n\n\nGreen in the claypits? What plants? What soils? What does it mean to restore and rewild nature?\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this event\n\n\nWho will lead the walk and talk? \nBarbra Harvie advises on restoration and reclamation projects\, mainly in Scotland. Barbra is a retired lecturer in environmental ecology at Scotland’s Rural College\, in Edinburgh. Her background is in plant ecology with particular interest in restoration ecology (where science meets people). She has worked on the reclamation of shale bings in central Scotland\, food security issues on the crofts of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. \nMalcolm Macneill is an amateur botanist of twenty years\, and a contributing member of The Botanical Society of Britain and Ireland with a focus on the land surrounding the Clyde River. He is recognized for his expertise within the urban environment of Glasgow\, especially abandoned industrial sites and neglected waste grounds. As a seaport\, rail and an industrial hub\, Glasgow has many\, species\, normally seen much further south in EU and UK. \n
